is how?
X-rays
are similar to light but invisible and more powerful.
They can penetrate through the Body that is how
they produce an image of the internal organs of
the Body.
When X-ray pass through the Body, they transfer
part of their energy to the tissues, producing a
number of Biochemical damages in the cells. Generally,
cells have the capacity to repair these damages
and restore normalcy. In a few cases the cells even
succumb. while some die, the others may survive
with altered genetic information - popularly known
as mutation. It is these dead and mutated cells
that cause concern.
Effects
on the foetus :
In the early part of pregnancy, before four weeks,
the foetus contains only a few million cells (the
adult human body contains 14 billion cells). Death
of even a few cells due to radiation may be lethal
to the foetus itself. This may result in abortion,
which may be hardly noticed at that stage.
During the latter part of the pregnancy, upto about
90 days, the foetal cells will start dividing rapidly,
to start forming the various organs of the Body.
During this stage, a loss of cells may interfere

malformation of the foetus. An extension of this
is the period from 8 to 16 weeks into the pregnancy,
when Brain Cells and neuronal networks are being
